Assessment of the need for orthodontic treatment in a Peruvian sample using the Dental Aesthetic Index.

Introduction: The Dental Aesthetic Index (DAI) is considered an essential tool in the association of aesthetic and clinical elements occlusion. It plays a key role timely orthodontic treatment. Objective: to determine treatment required students Peruvian public institution using DAI. Material Methods: A descriptive, observational, cross-sectional study was carried out during months June July 2016 educational institution. sample consisted 120 students. use DAI allowed assess required, through 10 occlusal conditions regression indicators that constitute linear formula, with following components: no elective treatment, desirable priority according severity malocclusion as normal, defined, severe, very respectively. Results: 53.3% (64) due presenting DAI=43.03. Between ages 12-14 years, 56.7% (34), 8.3% (5), 28.3% (17) priority, desirable, need for more prevalent females accounting 57.6% (38). 95% (57) from rural areas Conclusion: mostly ranging between years.
